Your information business and you – the ‘Internet Marketer’ – when working in tandem to bring in an income, are somewhat similar to a Formula-1 race car. You being the driver.
And the driver of the car has to remain in tune with what the engine needs every now and then – the fuel, oil, the timing of the engine – all of it, in order to have the beauty running smoothly.
When it comes to your information product business, you need to take care of the ebook, reports, messages or any other form of media you want to engage your consumer with. And it has to be done in a way that makes them ask for more and be willing to graduate to a paying customer or a subscriber. If they’re already paying, you want them to become repeat customers.
Always remember, before you write your ebook or report, “WHO” is your target market and “WHAT” do you want them to do when you offer the information. The answer to the what and who will decide “HOW” you create what it is you deliver.
Once you are crystal clear on what your niche is, and who your target audience is, you can go ahead and implement these power tactics to make you first ebook, reports or a podcast:
TACTIC # 1 : THE EXTRACTOR
Before implementing this, optimize your site a bit for a target keyword or two in your niche. That way you will get the right visitors for this to be effective. Else, just run a simple google ad with great copy. It’s cheap to do these days.
On the home page of your website have a survey, instead of a classic landing page (you can remove this once your ebook is ready). And in this survey you point out very targeted questions. Say…your niche is “microprocessors”. Have questions like:
-What’s the toughest part of the chip for you to understand?
-What parts do you find hard to get fabricated?
-Which kind of deals are best in your opinion for the embed code?
…and so on.
Hand out 6 such deep questions. Then find solutions to the problems visitors respond with, using google and microprocessor discussion forums. For the opinions, map out a simple tally on the various answers/brands you get in the survey. Then mark the top 3 and do some google research on those. Gather up your information. You are getting what the person needs to know or what he/she finds the best. You are extracting information. That’s why this tactic is called the “EXTRACTOR”.
When you’re writing your ebook, the questions you answered along with the related information you gathered become your chapters.
Here’s another example – The Weightloss Niche.
-What’s your biggest challenge losing weight? (Say, Response = Inability to control eating)
-What is the one body area where the fat is really troubling you? (Say, Response = Thighs)
-What pills/supplements have you tried that have not worked?
-What is the emotional feel you get when trying to lose weight?
-What exercises pain and stress you more than others?
-Which of the available sauna’s have been most effective?
Now, turn it over and create chapters within the book. The great thing is these answer exactly what a chunk of your target customers are saying. It’s like automatic-market-research in a way!
Let’s say chapter one is: Biggest challenges – how to control your eating without getting killed trying (based on response). Then next chapter is – Getting the weight off those troubling thighs. Chapter 3 – FORBIDDEN supplements that do not work and sabotage your weightloss. Next chapter – Getting rid of that nagging emotional eating habit in 15 minutes. Next chapter – The stressful exercises to avoid. Next – The sauna’s that really work and help you.
….and so on. You can have multiple such surveys at a few weeks gap every now and then.
QUICK TIP : To get this to really hit it…on the top of the survey, tell them you’re about to release a book that hits their issues and problems head on. To give it the final touches, you wanna make sure that each and every possible question is covered. Then, promise them, you’d send them their answers separately as an email when the book gets released. That way they’ll have an incentive to give good responses to your survey! Have them enter their email at the end. And after you work is done, just segregate their chapter as a separate pdf and fork it to them. Takes 3 minutes.
TACTIC # 2 : THE REPORT MACHINE
Reports have 2 main purposes – Getting opt-ins to your list OR getting people hungry for more and ultimately buy your product. So they have to be written 2 different ways.
The report machine tactic works for the free report that gets the opt-in can be a 5 to 10 page simple explanation of a technique that is unique to your teaching. Better yet, if you’ve already got your ebook done, pick out the most powerful breakthrough in it. Then remodel it in some more emotion touching words that hit the readers action buttons and make them feel you really know your stuff. Explain it a bit in detail and in the end have a conclusion telling it’s benefit and WHY it’s different from the 1 trillion other reports lying in their inbox. This is key as it helps your report to spread around by getting people discuss it!
Now if you don’t have an ebook yet, don’t worry. Study a bit about your subject for a few days. Then offer a free consultation call to your visitors for 20 minutes at a specified time of a day of your choice. Have them fill out a number and go ahead and call ‘em. Discuss their issues with them. Try answering their questions. REMEMBER – RECORD THAT CALL!!
Then, remove the irrelevant parts and have that call transcribed. Takes an hour or so. With the transcribed document, find the parts that stand out the most. Make them bullet points you discuss in the report. You can flash these bullets your landing page too. Format it up right. Make a pdf out of it and you’re all set!
TACTIC # 3 : THE SALES CARD
Now this report, is a lethal weapon. The big dogs in all markets use it to drive up their sales. What it essentially does is “educating” your consumer in an incomplete way.
Pick up that recording equipment again. But this time, don’t solve problems on tape. Instead try and sell you stuff to someone. Yes, make a full scale pitch to a prospect or to someone whose close to you and can be honest in raising objections to being sold to. Record the whole thing up to the point where you’ve got the person across reasonably interested in getting their wallet out. Then STOP!
Transcribe the recording and remove the other person’s dialogue or replace it with bold lettered intriguing questions consumers come up with. Your response on the tape and how you tackled it is the copy you write in your report. THAT is what convinces consumers to move forward and buy your product.
This forms a perfect yet educational “sales letter” report. Format it up as a gadget manual rather than a sales letter. Works like a charm!
